Jujube Ziziphus jujuba


These are deciduous trees native to temperate regions of Asia . Trees can reach 25' high with a spread of 15'. Braches have thorns and lay out in a zig-zag pattern. Jujube is a deep-rooted tree that can tolerate extreme heat and can exhibit drought tolerance once established. It should be noted, however, that for reliable fruit production adequate water must be provided. What follows are descriptions of the selections we sell.

'Lang' - The fruit of this selection measures 1" long and is roughly pear shaped. Fruit ripens a week after 'Li'. Use 'Li' as a pollinator. This selection ripens August to November.

'Li' - Fruit of this selection measures 1-2" long and is round in shape. This variety may be picked early and allowed to ripen indoors. This variety is self-fertile, but 'Lang' should be used as a pollinator where reliable production is desired. This selection is considered early, ripening in mid-August.
