Nectarines Prunus persica nucipersica

Nectarines are deciduous trees that are native to China . They are essentially peaches, but without the fuzz on the skin of the fruit. The fruit is separated into three types. In freestone nectarines the flesh pulls away from the pit. These are the most favorite varieties for eating fresh. Clingstone nectarines have flesh that sticks to the pit. It is said that these are the best varieties for canning and cooking since the flesh tends to be a bit firmer. Semi-freestone nectarines fall in the middle of the previous two designations. Generally nectarines prefer warm and dry springs, and long summers with high temperatures, though there are selections that are widely adapted. They do require a certain amount of chill hours for successful fruit set, but that varies by selection. All nectarines are considered to be self-fertile. What follows are descriptions of the selections we sell.
