Pomegranate Punica granatum
A deciduous tree native to the Himalayan region of India . This tree is grown for its showy flowers as well as its flavorful fruit. This tree can take a wide range of soils and can exhibit drought tolerance once established. Where reliable, tasty fruit is desired, though, adequate moisture should be provided to ensure good crop set. The pomegranate is a great source of vitamin C, potassium, and is a great source of fiber. We sell two types of pomegranates, bush form and tree form. What follow are description of the selections we sell.
'Early Wonderful' - The large, deep red fruit produced by this selection is thin skinned. Flesh is deep crimson in color and very juicy and sweeter than 'Wonderful'. This self-fertile selection ripens in early September. Tree needs approximately 100 chill hours. bush
'Eversweet' - This selection has beautiful dark orange colored flowers. Large fruit has a shiny red colored skin. Flesh is virtually seedless, extremely sweet and has juice that does not stain. Tree is not recommended for the high desert. This self-fertile selection ripens in late August to early October. Tree requires 100 chill hours. bush
'Sweet' - This selection produces large fruit that has slight green coloring with a red blush. Flesh is pink, juicy and has a sweet flavor. Tree bears at an early age. This self-fertile selection ripens in August to September. Tree needs approximately 100 chill hours. bush
'Wonderful' - This is the most popular selection of pomegranate. Large to extra large fruit is slightly oval in shape and dark red in color. Flesh is crimson in color and very tasty. This self-fertile selection ripens in September. Tree needs approximately 100 chill hours. bush and tree
