Prunes Prunus domestica
Prunes are in fact plums. They have a higher sugar content which allows them to be sun-dried without fermenting the flesh. What follows are descriptions of the selections we sell.
'Early Italian' - This is a large fruit that is slightly oval in shape and has dark purple colored skin. Flesh is dark yellow and has a very sweet flavor. This self-fertile selection ripens in August. Tree needs approximately 800 chill hours.
'French Improved' - This is the standard commercial selection. Large fruit has a dark blue skin. Flesh is fine-textured, sweet, and yellow in color. This self-fertile selection ripens in late August to September. Tree needs approximately 800 chill hours.
'Stanley' - This selection produces large fruit that has black colored skin. Flesh is dark yellow in color, sweet and juicy. This self-fertile selection ripens in August to September. Tree needs approximately 800 chill hours.
'Sugar' - This selection produces large to extra large fruit with reddish purple skin. Flesh is yellow in color and has an intensely sweet flavor. This self-fertile selection ripens in August. Tree needs approximately 800 chill hours.
