Quince Cydonia oblonga


This is a deciduous tree native to the Mid-East. This tree is as hardy as a peach or nectarine, surviving temperatures as low as 0 degrees F. The tree usually reaches 15' high with an equal spread. The branches have an interesting twisted appearance. Fruits usually taste better cooked rather than raw and are used for baking and in jams. What follows are descriptions of the selections we sell.

'Orange' - The medium size, rounded fruit produced by this selection is golden yellow in color. Flesh is dark yellow and tender. This self-fertile selection ripens in September to October. Tree needs approximately 300 chill hours.

'Pineapple' - This selection produces large, smooth fruit that has a dark yellow skin. Flesh is white in color with a slight pineapple taste. This self-fertile selection ripens in September. Tree needs approximately 300 chill hours.

'Smyrna' - This is a large to extra large fruit that is slightly elongated and lemon yellow in color. Flesh is light yellow in color, fragrant and tender. This self-fertile selection ripens in September. Tree needs approximately 300 chill hours.
