Celtis australis EUROPEAN HACKBERRY
A striking, deep-rooted species that is suitable as a street or lawn tree. This is a deciduous tree that normally grows to 60-70' high and has a spread of 35'. Leaves are dark green in color, are pointed at the tip and measure 3-5 inches long. This species has the shortest leaf-less period of all Hackberries. Tree is resistant to oak root fungus. Hackberries are the best trees for use near sidewalks because they tend not to raise cement with their roots. USDA: 6-9 Sunset: 8-16, 18-20, 29-33

Celtis occidentalis COMMON HACKBERRY
A tough tree tolerant of many types of soils. This is a deciduous tree that can reach 50' high with a similar spread. Leaves measure 2-4 inches long, have a finely serrated edge and are lost in a beautiful display of fall color. Tree is resistant to oak root fungus. Hackberries are the best trees for use near sidewalks because they tend not to raise cement with their roots. Tree resists urban pollution very well. USDA: 2-9 Sunset: 1-24, 30-45

Celtis sinensis CHINESE HACKBERRY
Smooth, glossy green leaves make this tree pleasing to the eye. This deciduous tree can grow to a height of 40' with a spread near the same. Leaves measure 4 inches long with slight serrations along the edge and are lost in the fall in a brilliant display of color. Tree can withstand poor soils and is resistant to oak root fungus.
