Malus cultivars CRABAPPLE
Crabapples are most prized for their spectacular flowers and fruit. Leaves are oval in shape with a pointed tip. Flowers occur in the spring time and range in color from white to pink. Trees are resistant to oak root fungus. Better fall color comes in cooler climates. Characteristics of the selections we grow are listed below. USDA: 4-8 Sunset: 1-11,14-43 when noted

'Almey' - This tree is an older selection with leaves that are a bronzy green in color. Tree can reach 20-30' high with an equal spread. Scarlet colored flowers have a bit of white at the base and give way to maroon colored fruit that hangs on the tree

'Bechtel' - This selection has dense, green colored foliage and can reach 15-20' high with an equal spread. Double flowers are pink in color, bloom late in season and are slightly fragrant. This tree seldom fruits.

'Dolgo' - This is an upright, spreading selection with glossy green leaves that can reach 40' high and wide. Single, white flowers give way to edible, red fruit. Tree shows good resistance to cedar-apple rust and to mildew.

'Eleyi' - This selection can reach 20' high with an equal spread. Single, red flowers appear in the spring and are followed by small purple fruits.

floribunda JAPANESE FLOWERING CRABAPPLE - This is one of the oldest flowering crabapples in the world. A wide spreading tree that can reach 20' high with an equal spread. Green leaves measure 2-3 inches. Single flowers appear red then fade to white in the springtime and are followed by a light red fruit.

'Hopa' - A fast growing selection of Crabapple that can reach 25' high with a 20' spread. Flowers are single, rose colored and give way to a large, red fruit.

'Prarifire' - Leaves of this variety unfold red in color later maturing to a dark green. Tree can reach 20' high with an equal spread. Single flowers are red in color, and give way to dark red fruit that hangs on the tree. This tree has very good resistance to cedar-apple rust, fire blight, mildew and scab.

'Radiant' - This selection has a broad crown and purplish colored leaves. Tree can reach 25' wide with a spread of 20'. Single flowers are a dark pink color and give way to a bright red fruit. Tree shows good resistance to fireblight

'Red Silver' - An average size selection reaching 30' high with an equal spread. This variety has single, deep red colored flowers that give way to dark purple colored fruit.

'Robinson' - This selection has an upright vase shaped crown that can reach 25' high with an equal spread. Single flowers are deep pink in color and give way to dark red fruit. Tree shows very good resistance to cedar-apple rust, fireblight, and mildew.

'Snow Drift' - This tree has a dense rounded canopy that reaches 20' high with an equal spread. Single, white flowers sustain on the tree for long periods of time. Tree shows very good resistance to cedar-apple rust and mildew.

'Spring Snow' - The single, white flowers of this Crabapple are fragrant. Tree can reach 25' high with an equal spread. There is almost no fruit produced making it suitable near paved surfaces. Tree shows very good resistance to mildew.
